It started as a dream. You know the one. The one where you wake up in a cozy cabin the middle of the forest, the smell of bacon cooking on the wood stove. You're cozied up with a good book and a large cup of tea while watching the snow falling ever so softly through the window. And this place you're in, it's yours to call your own. It's a place you get away from life's responsibilities and the 9-5; to forget about the real world and connect with nature.
A place were you can be completely at peace.
My love for the outdoors started at a young age. My parents took me camping as young as I can remember. We spent our summers on the lake, water skiing and tubing, building tree forts and hunting for salamanders. In the winter we'd head to the ski hill, making snow forts, going sledding... We. Played. Outside. What ever happened to kids playing outside anyway?
But it was in the summer of 2003 at a ripe age of 13, that I embarked on a trip that would change my life and set the foundation for my love of the backcountry and epic adventures. Hiking into the article circle, surrounded by the vastness of Auyuittuq National Park, it's towering mountains and ice cold glacial rivers, well...
I was changed forever...
When Mitch and I met in 2009, I was excited to get to share my love of the outdoors with someone else. Over the past 7 years we have gone on many backcountry adventures, hikes and trips together! There is no one I'd rather adventure through life with than him!
Our most recent adventure together? We're making that dream I was talking about become a reality, and building a 16x16 log cabin in the woods, start. to. finish.
And what an adventure it has been!
